Sterol (sterol) is a kind of steroid compound (steroid) existing in nature, although its content is not much, but it has high application value. Because it is solid, it is also called sterol, which belongs to macromolecular alcohols. It is the main component of unsaponifiable matter in oils. According to different sources, sterols can be divided into three categories, namely animal sterols, phytosterols and mycosterols. Phytosterol (sitosterol) is considered to be a mild free radical scavenger, which explains to a certain extent the positive effects of phytosterol on maintaining cell membrane stability, inhibiting inflammation, preventing atherosclerosis and anticancer. Anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects Phytosterols have anti-inflammation, anti-infection, and inhibition of bacterial and fungal reproduction, and their anti-inflammatory effect is also one of the functions discovered earlier.
1. Phytosterols have a wide range of biological functions in medicine and food science. In animal production, the scientific use of phytosterols can promote animal growth, improve body health, improve the quality of animal products, and play a positive role in reducing breeding costs and improving economic benefits. As a functional additive, phytosterols have broad application prospects in the feed industry. At present, the mechanism of action, effective dosage form and dose, absorption efficiency and application technology of phytosterols in improving animal growth and health have not been fully elucidated, and a large number of in-depth studies are still needed to lay the foundation for its scientific and rational application.
2. β-sitosterol and β-sitosterol derivatives are widely used in medicine, food, cosmetics, feed and other industries due to their unique biological and physical and chemical properties.
3. It has the effects of lowering cholesterol, relieving cough, eliminating phlegm, inhibiting tumors and repairing tissues. For type II hyperlipidemia, atherosclerosis and chronic bronchitis, also for early cervical cancer and skin ulcers. Gastrointestinal reactions such as loss of appetite, diarrhea, and gastrointestinal pain may occur in large doses. Ulcers caused by osteomyelitis should not be used before the primary disease has healed. Calf ulcers with varicose veins of the lower extremities must be treated with varicose veins at the same time.
4. β-sitosterol has the functions of lowering cholesterol, relieving cough, eliminating phlegm, inhibiting tumor and repairing tissue. It can be used as a blood lipid-lowering drug for type II hyperlipidemia, atherosclerosis and chronic bronchitis, and also for early cervical cancer and skin ulcers.
5. Pharmaceutical raw materials and health food.
Beta-sitosterol, used to supplement diets in mice, found significant effects on body mass accumulation
6. A phytosterol whose structure is very similar to cholesterol and has estrogenic activity. It inhibits proliferation (G2/M arrest), endoduplication, and polymerization of α-tubulin and microtubules in human leukemia cells.
7. Used as a hypolipidemic drug.
