Letermovir (aic246, mk-8228) is a novel anti CMV compound, which targets the virus terminal enzyme complex and is also active for viruses resistant to DNA polymerase inhibitors.

AIC246 was able to prevent viral replication without inhibiting the synthesis of progeny CMV DNA or the synthesis of viral proteins. AIC246 is currently one of the Chemicalbook effective anti-HCMV (cytomegalovirus) reagents, its EC50 value in cells is about 5nM, and the selectivity index is more than 15000.


In the mouse transplanted tumor model, the experimental mice treated with AIC246 showed a dose-dependent decrease in HCMV titer in transplanted cells compared with the control mice treated with placebo.
