Product Introduction
Gymnema sylvestre is a plant used medicinally for treatment of diabetes or hyperglycemia. In ancient Indian texts, gymnema means "sugar killer" in Sanskrit. The anti-sweet activities of Gymnema are attributed to gymnemic acids. More than 20 homologues of gymnemic acid are found in the leaves of Gymnema sylvestre. Gymnemic Acids are known to suppress transport of glucose from the intestine into the blood stream and a small protein, gurmar, which can interact with receptors on the tongue to decrease the sensation of sweetness in many foods. This dual action has been shown to reduce blood sugar and cholesterol levels in diabetic animals and humans and may deliver important health benefits for individuals who want to reduce blood sugar levels or body weight
