Berberine hydrochloride, also known as berberine hydrochloride, has been used clinically as a heat-clearing, detoxifying and antibacterial drug for a long time. It is often used to treat bacillary dysentery, acute gastroenteritis, chronic cholecystitis, conjunctivitis, suppurative otitis media and other diseases, all of which have significant curative effects. Berberine hydrochloride is an isoquinoline alkaloid that exists in many plants of 4 families and 10 genera such as Berberidaceae. Berberine can precipitate yellow needle-like crystals from ether. Berberine is a quaternary ammonium alkaloid, and the solubility of its salts in water is relatively small, for example, hydrochloride is 1:500, and sulfate is 1:30.
1. Berberine has antibacterial effect on hemolytic streptococcus, Staphylococcus aureus, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Freund's and Shigella dysenteriae, and can enhance leukocyte phagocytosis. Berberine hydrochloride has been widely used in the treatment of gastroenteritis, bacillary dysentery, etc., and also has certain curative effects on tuberculosis, scarlet fever, acute tonsillitis and respiratory tract infection.
2. Berberine has a broad antibacterial spectrum, and has antibacterial effects on a variety of Gram-positive and negative bacteria in vitro, including hemolytic streptococci, Staphylococcus aureus, and Vibrio cholerae. Meningococcus, Shigella dysenteriae, typhoid bacillus, diphtheria bacillus, etc. have a strong inhibitory effect
3. Berberine also has a certain inhibitory effect on influenza virus, amoeba, leptospira and some skin fungi.
