What 's the Ferulic Acid Powder?
Ferulic acid is an aromatic acid ubiquitous in the plant kingdom. It is a component of suberin. It rarely exists in a free state in plants, and mainly forms a combined state with oligosaccharides, polyamines, lipids and polysaccharides. Ferulic acid, whose chemical name is 3-methoxy-4-hydroxycinnamic acid, has a relatively high content in ferulicum, angelica, Chuanxiong, Cimicifuga, Suanzaoren and other traditional Chinese medicines, and is one of the active ingredients of these traditional Chinese medicines. Ferulic acid has cis and trans isomers, both of which are pale yellow solids.
- 1. Anti-radiation effect. Radiation-induced organ failure is largely caused by chronic peroxidation damage. The damage caused by radiation to the body can be divided into direct damage and indirect damage. The direct damage is that the radiation directly causes the fracture of some sensitive molecules in the cell. Indirect damage is caused by water radiolysis, which leads to the increase of intracellular reactive oxygen species and thus causes the change of subcellular structure. Therefore, antioxidants are widely used in the treatment of radiation damage.
2. Antioxidant function.
Ferulic acid, as a phenolic plant component, has strong antioxidant activity and plays a great role in promoting human health. Ferulic acid can significantly increase the contents of glutathione and niacinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate in irradiated cells, which has a protective effect on irradiated endothelial cells.
3. Antibacterial and antiviral functions.
The inhibitory mechanism of ferulic acid on virus is related to its ability to reduce the activity of xanthine oxidase, because this kind of enzyme can generally cause some inflammation. The antibacterial function of ferulic acid is mainly speculated to be due to its strong inhibitory effect on N-acetotransferase in bacteria.
